That's a wrap on October! We hope your weekend is filled with fun, safe celebrations and a little time to rest up. We'll see everyone back on Monday!

Announcements:
  • We know that families are going to be affected by SNAP benefits and wanted to share some local resources: 

  • Our school is actively working to create food support that will be distributed from the school directly to students. 

  • Backpack Food Program: This continues to provide extra food support for students over the weekends. (Please note: snack bags will not be available during the week of conferences and may be distributed the week prior.)

  • Elks Lodge Deliveries: The Elks Lodge in Cottage Grove is delivering food to Dorena.

  • Community Sharing: Families can continue to access food and essentials through Community Sharing, which will also be offering holiday food boxes in the coming weeks.

  • Mobile Food Pantry: Available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind Umpqua Bank. This pantry offers a variety of fresh and shelf-stable items to families in need.

  • Local Churches: Several churches in the area provide hot meal programs, open to anyone who could use a warm meal.

  • Tree of Joy Applications: Glenn (our CCS) has Tree of Joy applications available for families who could use a little extra support during the holiday season.

  • Upriver Pantry (Dorena): A local pantry resource for families needing ongoing food assistance. 37895 Row River Rd, Dorena, OR 97434 541-946-1821 3rd Fridays: 4:00 pm–5:30 pm

  • Lane County Bounty – Community Holiday Harvest Boxes: The Community Care Specialist team is partnering with Lane County Bounty to bring in holiday harvest boxes featuring local and organic produce, grains, pantry staples, and a recipe booklet. Each box includes fresh grains, root vegetables, onions, storage squash, herbs, and local fruit. We’ll have 50–60 boxes available for distribution on November 20th and December 18th, and we’re currently coordinating with Food for Lane County to finalize the setup.

  • Food for Lane County Cereal Youth Program: This program provides granola for students and is currently being utilized at Cottage Grove High School. We hope to expand this program to other schools in the near future.

  • It is a FULL Day of School next Wednesday 11/5! This is to allow for a half grading day and teacher PD day on Monday 11/10
  • There will NOT BE STEAM CLUB 11/5 due to the full day. 
  • If students would like to bring halloween candy to school they may eat it at lunch time only! 
  • We have also been seeing a lot of toys come to school that are really distracting in class, please help us to ensure that all toys are left at home unless the teacher communicates they can bring toys for a special class event or party. 
  • Our attendance challenge has come to an end
  • Week 10/3-11/7Character Trait: Emotion Regulation/Impulse Control
