April 3rd, 2026 We had a full week despite a short week after spring break. Getting back into the routine (especially the bed time routine) and practices of school! After spring break can be fast and furious as the year starts to wind down, academics continue to ramp up and so does the fun!  Announcements: We have a FULL day of school this Wednesday 4/8/26, NO EARLY RELEASE, NO STEAM CLUB.  HUGE Shoutout the the Bentson family and Ollie for painting and planting our Dorena Planter in front of the school! It looks great!  We invite our families to come help us celebrate our work as a school. We have earned an award for our high levels of academic achievement, collaborative culture, and focus on learning. This award will be presented at the School Board meeting 4/6 at 5:30pm.   March 20th, 2026 The alarm is muted, the backpack is tossed,  My sense of "due dates" is officially lost.  No pencils, no papers, no bus at the gate,  Just snacks and the couch—and a nap starting late. The math is forgotten, the essays can wait,   I’m diving headfirst into Spring Break! Announcements: Spring break has been extended by one day! WE will not return to school until Tuesday March 31st.  Just a heads up, we have identified cases of head lice within our school community. While head lice is an unfortunate common part of school life, staying proactive helps keep all our students comfortable and ready to learn. It would be so helpful if you could take a quick peek at your child's scalp, especially behind the ears and at the neck. If you do find lice, please begin treatment and let us know how we can support. Thank you!  We have upped the reward for our next attendance challenge which will include March and April. The class with the most p...

March 13th, 2026 Happy Friday the 13th, we are officially one week away from Spring Break. This can be a tricky week as students are tired and ready for a break, we will get through it together! Good bed time routines and lots of rest really help us get to that last day.  Announcements: Spring break has been extended by one day! WE will not return to school until Tuesday March 31st.  We have upped the reward for our next attendance challenge which will include March and April. The class with the most points by April 26th will earn a pool party down at the Waren H. Daugherty Aquatic Center! Our attendance has dwindled down immensely from 86% regular attenders in Dec to 68% currently. We are hoping that after spring break when kiddos have some time to get well our rates will go up! Each class can earn a point for only having one student absent and/or one student tardy. Classes can also earn a bonus point for having the best attendance in the school each day.  This mo...

It has been another hard month as our students have continued to be hit with illness, but we want to honor the class that had the best attendance for the month with a technology party!  Friday will be our PBIS Staff vs Students basketball game! All 4th-8th grade students have the opportunity to play against our Dorena staff for a fun basketball game with an upbeat halftime show performed by our K-3rd graders! Families are invited to cheer and watch from the stands.  Next week is Classified appreciation week! We honor all of our Educational assistants, our kitchen staff, our nurse, our community care specialist, our bus drivers, our maintenance crew, our custodian, without them our school would not be able to operate!  We have received a couple of grants to help start a music program here at Dorena for the remainder of the year.   February 6th, 2026 January is behind us and we are already nearing the 100th day of school!  We are so proud of the growth our students are showing. A special shoutout to our Kindergarten and 1st Grade students: they have been practicing their "big kid" listening skills, and the results are amazing! They’ve moved from 400 "talk-outs" to just 64 in a two-week span. That is a huge win for student focus and learning. Thank you for all your support at home—it truly makes a difference! Announcements: We are moving our Family Title Night to THURSDAY Feb 26th 5:30-7pm! We have been invited to a school-wide K-8th grade field trip on 2/27 to the Hult Center, once details are confirmed we will send out the information.  We have received a couple of grants to help start a music program here at Dorena for the remainder of the year. We are looking for someone who has experience with guitars, handbells, and/or recorders! If you know of someone please email Mrs. Pixton devin.pi...
