January is behind us and we are already nearing the 100th day of school! We are so proud of the growth our students are showing.

A special shoutout to our Kindergarten and 1st Grade students: they have been practicing their "big kid" listening skills, and the results are amazing! They’ve moved from 400 "talk-outs" to just 64 in a two-week span. That is a huge win for student focus and learning.

Thank you for all your support at home—it truly makes a difference!

Announcements:

  • We are moving our Family Title Night to THURSDAY Feb 26th 5:30-7pm!

  • We have been invited to a school-wide K-8th grade field trip on 2/27 to the Hult Center, once details are confirmed we will send out the information. 

  • We have received a couple of grants to help start a music program here at Dorena for the remainder of the year. We are looking for someone who has experience with guitars, handbells, and/or recorders! If you know of someone please email Mrs. Pixton devin.pixton@slane.k12.or.us 


  • We appreciate library books being returned, some are being returned in VERY poor shape, we have very limited funds to purchase new books every year and really need the utmost care taken with borrowed books. We will be asking families to replace books that are damaged beyond repair and we will have students work to repair books they bring in that can be repaired.

  • 3/6 Staff vs Student Basketball game, parents are invited to play and/or watch! 
 
Mr. Potato came out to celebrate 4/5th great attendance! 
Middle School Dance at the Armory! 

All of our classes met their goal on their MAP testing challenge so we got a popcorn recess with music!

Weekly Newsletter 9/5/25

  September 5th, 2025 What a great start to the new school year! Our classrooms are buzzing with energy, full of excited students ready to learn and achieve amazing things. We're so glad to have everyone back. These first few weeks have been focused on setting a strong foundation for success. We're busy assessing students' skills, teaching and reviewing school expectations, and practicing our daily routines. This groundwork ensures we can all have a smooth and productive year. Thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our Open House. It was wonderful to see so many of you connect with teachers and other families.   October 3rd, 2025 It's October ! I want to take a moment to express how incredibly proud I am of the important work you do every single day as parents. We see our students working hard to show up every day ready to learn, and we know that dedication and hard work starts at home. Thank you for cultivating that environment for your children. I am grateful for all of our families and guardians, for the space we hold for one another, and for the deep conversations we can have as a community to better support our children and our families. Thank you for your commitment and trust. Announcements: Swimming starts this week for 2nd/3rd grade and 4th/5th grades! Students will swim for 2 weeks. The school will help track swim gear and towels while they are here at school and will dry the equipment each day.  We have our bi-annual WALK AND ROLL to school event on Wednesday, 8/8.
