Weekly Newsletter 10/25/24
October 25th, 2024
Happy Friday everyone! We ended our week with a super fun Fall Festival with London School. We feel so honored that they include us in such a fun event. We are so proud of our Dorena students and staff as they really embodied Dorena Pride at the event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped, we appreciate you so much. We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Announcements:
- PBIS Theme: Respect
- On November 1st we will have Dorena School Night at the Cottage Grove High School football game! Students get in for free and it is $5 for adults. If your family would REALLY like to come and needs assistance with adult tickets please let us know and we can help. Our football team is one of 2 teams that is UNDEFEATED so it will be an exciting game, some family fun, and a chance for our kids to see the high school they will one day attend!
- All students are allowed to wear their Halloween costume to school on Thursday, if costumes have a mask we ask that student ONLY wear their mask during our PBIS event, recess, or class party. Costumes with blood, gore, weapons or profanity will not be allowed. Thank you!
- Our first PBIS event will be on Thursday, for all students who DO NOT earn more than 3 office referrals for the week starting Monday 10/28, will be eligible to participate. We will have a Halloween inspired assembly and a trick or treat activity. Families are invited to join!
- We have decided since we are focusing so much on attendance this year that our Monthly Donuts and Dodgeball privilege will be for students who have attended 93% or more of that month and who have no more than 5 behavioral referrals.
Data
- We have almost completed our Social Emotional Learning assessment, 15% of our Dorena students have self reported or have been perceived by their teachers as showing strength in all of the SEL topics measured. 31% of students show strength in at least half of the SEL topics measured. 21% showed strength in less than half of the SEL topics measured and 17% showed not having any strengths in the SEL topics measured.
- The SEL topics measured are: Perseverance, Growth Mindset, Grit, Self Management, Social Awareness, and Emotion Regulation.
Volunteers
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help in our school. This year we have a new math curriculum and it requires a lot of prep!
