Weekly Newsletter 11/1/24
November 1st, 2024
It is already November! We had a wonderful week celebrating our students who have been Safe, Responsible, and Respectful all week it even involved our first ever staff flash mob! There are lots of wacky days in November with EARLIER releases, conference half days, and no school days. Please call if you every have questions about any of the wacky days coming up!
Announcements:
- PBIS Theme: Gratitude
- On November 1st we will have Dorena School Night at the Cottage Grove High School football game! Students get in for free and it is $5 for adults. If your family would REALLY like to come and needs assistance with adult tickets please let us know and we can help. Our football team is one of 2 teams that is UNDEFEATED so it will be an exciting game, some family fun, and a chance for our kids to see the high school they will one day attend!
- We will have our first Attendance Challenge starting Friday 11/1! Every day that a class has no more than 1 absence and no more than 1 tardy that class will earn a point. By 11/26 the class with the most points will earn an Ice cream Sundae party!!!!
- Our first Donuts and Dodgeball will be 11/15! Every student who has 90% attendance or better since the beginning of October AND not more than 5 office referrals will be eligible to participate.
- As we dive more into our data in preparation for conference in late November we are going to start sharing more of the information about the types of data we collect and how we use that data to support students.
Data
- Office Referral data, we are wanting to be more transparent with all of the data we use to help support student's needs. Part of the data that we use is our office referral data that tracks behaviors that are unexpected. We will be sharing individual student data at conferences regarding how many minor and major referrals a student might have as well as what behavior is being documented on those referrals.
- So far this year we have 230 documents office referrals.
- Kindergarten makes up 39.7% of all referrals
- First grade makes up 31% of all referrals
- 3rd grade make up 8.3% of all referrals.
- 70% of referrals are Major referrals and 30% are minor referrals
- Defiance makes up the most referrals 29.3%, eloping make up the second most referrals 24.9%, Disruption to the learning environment is 3rd 17.9%, and Physical Aggression is 4th with 16.6%.
- 42.8% of referrals are occurring in the classroom, 28.4% are occurring in the gym, and 12.7% are happening in the hallways and breezeways.
Transportation
- We understand how challenging and frustrating the sudden bus changes are, we only have two busses and if one is running late or if we are short drivers it severely impacts our students' routes home and the times that they get home. We encourage everyone to ensure you are connected to our Class Dojo as we immediately post all updates on there. Thank you for your continued patience.
Volunteers
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help in our school. This year we have a new math curriculum and it requires a lot of prep! We also send home snack packs weeks and need help with assembly. If the activities listed below are something that you are interested in, please stop by our office and pick up a volunteer packet. Processing applications takes about 2 weeks so please get your forms in quickly.
- Helping in the classroom
- Attending and assisting on field trips
- Helping with school events such as assemblies, field day, etc.
