Weekly Newsletter 1/10/25
January 10th, 2025
Happy New Year everyone! We started this year off with a BANG! Students returned to school from break with positive attitudes, motivation, and ready to learn. AND we got right to it, dove right into core instruction, started our MAP growth testing, and met in community to check in on everyone's feelings. We are so excited to be back and to see how far we can take our students in their learning and skills.
Announcements:
- PBIS Theme: Empathy
- We need your help with safety during dismissal in our pick-up line. We need cars who are picking up in the line to move through continuously, if you need to park and get out, we ask that you please use one of our parking spaces in the front. We have gotten quite congested as of late, and it has led to some safety concerns.
- The weather is cold and with our new covered structure, we are spending more recess time outside, please let us know if you need a coat for your student.
- Our school community is participating in the 2025 Electronic Recycling Competition! We will be going up against 45 Lane County Schools to recycle the most "e-waste" the winner gets $500 to their school and a NextStep Reuse store gift card! Please see this document for eligible items to recycle. We will notify families as soon as our Bins have been delivered.
- We have been having issues with cyberbullying on social media that has been affecting the learning here at school. We are a phone-free school which means if students bring their phone to school they need to turn it into the teacher at the beginning of the day and teacher's return them at the end of the day. We have internet blockers on apps like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook here at the school but unfortunately cannot control what sites student's are accessing when they are not at school. We ask for your help in monitoring your child's social media postings, comments, stories, snaps, etc. If it is hurtful or hateful please encourage your child to remove it. If you see something from another student that is hateful or hurtful please take a screen shot and email it to Mrs. Pixton. We really appreciate your help and partnership as we navigate this new age problem.
- Every Friday our classes have "Fun Friday" 1:30-2:30pm, and we would love to have guest presenters or guest artists, musicians, etc. come be a part of this experience for our students. If you would like to be involved or know someone who would, please email or call Mrs. Pixton.
- Our Robotics/STEM club has really taken off and we are hoping for some additional help! We need volunteers to help with our Robotics/STEM club each Wednesday from 12:30-3:30pm.
- We also would love school-wide snack donations, goldfish crackers, graham crackers, and granola bars are all big hits. Thank you!
Attendance
- Our Attendance took a big dip in December thanks to illness but made a big comeback this week as we returned to school! Let's keep it up!
- We are still really struggling with our attendance in Middle school, and Middle school is a CRUCIAL time to really focus on coming to school to be prepared for high school.
- We will have 4 attendance challenges for the remainder of the year with big prizes, with our next one starting the month of February!
Volunteers
- WE ARE SO GRATEFUL for our Volunteers!
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help in our school. This year we have a new math curriculum and it requires a lot of prep! We also send home snack packs weeks and need help with assembly. If the activities listed below are something that you are interested in, please stop by our office and pick up a volunteer packet. Processing applications takes about 2 weeks so please get your forms in quickly.
