First week of February and it started off with a bang! From starting self-managers, to our new attendance challenge, and SNOW! We are so proud of our Dorena families. With all of the sudden changes with transportation and navigating all of that this week, you all ROCKED it! We have lots of exciting things coming up this month and are excited to share them with you all.
Announcements:
- PBIS Theme: Emotional Regulation
- Goals:
- I can recognize when I'm feeling upset and use my words or tools to calm down/regulate.
- I can pause and think before I speak or act, even when I am excited or upset, and make an appropriate choice.
- We started self-managers this week! Self Managers in a positive behavior system we have in place for students to work towards earning becoming a self manager each week. Our goal this month is to regulate our emotions. When a student earns being a self-manager, they earn special privileges and responsibilities such as getting to line up first, transitioning to lunch or PE without an adult escort, extra recess time, etc. Self-managers will get to earn participating in Donuts and Dodgeball on 2/21!

- We have our February PBIS Celebration on Friday, 2/28, a staff vs student basketball game. Students in 4th-8th grade are earning the opportunity to play, and our K-3rd grade students will earn the opportunity to perform a routine during half time. Students who have received less than 3 office referrals for the month of February are eligible to attend and/or to play.
- On 2/21 we will have our Family Night from 5:30-7pm. Please join us for an Art Gallery presentation by our preschool- 8th grade classes and a spaghetti dinner! Cool Door Prizes, too!
- We have started our monthly attendance challenge! We are trying to get to kids to school every day and on time. The winning class for the month: Each student will win a NEW Dorena Proud vinyl sticker and a NEW Dorena Proud hat. Let's get those kids to school
- Our school community is participating in the 2025 Electronic Recycling Competition! We will be going up against 45 Lane County Schools to recycle the most "e-waste" the winner gets $500 to their school and a NextStep Reuse store gift card! Please see this document for eligible items to recycle. Please bring your approved items to the school. WE ARE THE ONLY SLSD school participating!
- We also would love school-wide snack donations, goldfish crackers, graham crackers, and granola bars are all big hits. Thank you!

- Attendance: 66%, 34% chronically absent. Thursday has the highest attendance and Monday the lowest attendance. 2nd grade has the highest attendance, 7th and 8th lowest attendance
- Behavior: 609 total referrals, 11:30am highest incident time. 68.5% are Major referrals for bigger more serious behaviors, and 32.3% are minor for smaller behaviors. Defiance is the most common behavior, followed by eloping. The classroom is the location with the most referrals, followed by the gym.
Volunteers
- WE ARE SO GRATEFUL for our Volunteers!
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help in our school. This year we have a new math curriculum and it requires a lot of prep! We also send home snack packs weeks and need help with assembly. If the activities listed below are something that you are interested in, please stop by our office and pick up a volunteer packet. Processing applications takes about 2 weeks so please get your forms in quickly.
- Helping in the classroom
- Attending and assisting on field trips
- Helping with school events such as assemblies, field day, etc.

Week of School 2/10-2/14
