Weekly Newsletter 4/25/25

April 25th, 2025

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended our parent-teacher conferences! It was truly inspiring to see our Middle School students leading their own conferences with confidence and reflection. Likewise, our 4th and 5th graders did an amazing job sharing their goals and progress with their people.

Your partnership in this journey is invaluable, as growth happens best when we work together to support our students. Thank you for being such an integral part of their success!

As we look ahead, we hope everyone enjoys the upcoming three-day weekend. It's hard to believe May is just around the corner!

Reading
  • According to our latest DIBELS reading data, 50% of our Dorena students are reading on grade level or scoring at grade level on the composite. In the fall, 41% of students were meeting grade level, so we have made some progress!
Social Emotional Skills
  • 16% of all students have reported or measured as having a strength in all SEL areas. 36% report or measure having strength in more than half of the SEL areas. 22% of students report or measure having a strength in less than half of the SEL areas, and 11% of students show no SEL strengths.
  • The areas we measure are Persistence, Growth Mindset, Grit, Self-management, Social awareness, and Emotion Regulation.
Attendance
  • Our attendance has slowly been increasing! We have gone from 66% regular attenders to currently at 70% regular attenders. Our school goal is 75% of students attending school at least 90% of the time!
  • Currently 3rd grade has the highest attendance rate for the last 90 days, Kindergarten has the lowest attendance rate for the last 90 days.
  • Dorena School has the lowest attendance rate compared to all of the other SLSD elementary schools! We still have time to change this!
Behavior
  • We have a total of 937 total office referrals so far this year! Last year we had a total of 293 total office referrals for the year. 52.1% of all referrals are from our Kindergarten Class, 17.2% of all referrals are from 1st grade and 10.1% are from 4th grade.

We also send home snack packs weeks and need help with assembly. If the activities listed below are something that you are interested in, please stop by our office and pick up a volunteer packet.
